Ausanio, Women's Golf 3rd at NEC's
Anna Ausanio led the Blue Devils in the tournament's opening round.
The Central Connecticut women's golf team is just 11 strokes off of event leader LIU-Brooklyn after the first round of the 2013 Northeast Conference Championship Tournament. The third place Blue Devils hold a three stroke lead over fourth place Quinnipiac.
This year's NEC Tournament is being held at LPGA International - Legends Course in Daytona Beach, FL. The par-72 course will play 5,982 yards this weekend. Tournament play is scheduled for three rounds, Friday through Sunday, with 18 holes played on each day.
LIU-Brooklyn tops the leader board after round one after scoring a 16-over par 304. Second place Fairleigh Dickinson trails the Blackbirds by eight strokes after a 24-over par 312 Friday. Central is in third behind the Knights by just three strokes registering a 315 team score.
Senior Anna Ausanio registered a 74 on day one to put her in a third place tie on the individual leader board. Ausanio shot just two strokes over-par in the opening round to place her three strokes behind the tournament's individual leader Mariana Juaristi of Fairleigh Dickinson.
Also in the top-twenty of individual competitors was senior Stephanie Bednar and sophomore Albrianna Farnum. Bednar is tied for 14th place after shooting a seven-over par 79 after Friday's round. Farnum is tied for 17th place registering a round one 80.
Senior Katie Reid is tied for 23rd place and freshman Sarah Boden is tied for 29th individually. Reid shot an 82 and Boden marked down an 83.
Round two will begin tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
