CCSU 3rd After Impressive 307 at SJU
Sarah Boden marked down a 73 after round one at the St. John's Invitational
The Central Connecticut women's golf team left Eisenhower Park after day one with an impressive 307 team score and a third place spot on the team leader board. Central competed in the first round of the St. John's Invitational on Monday, the second round of the two-day tournament will be held on Tuesday, September 18th.
First year Blue Devil freshman Sarah Boden led the way for Central Connecticut in round one penciling in a 73 on her score card. Boden is in second place individually and trails the tournament's leader, St. John's Stephanie Eybers, by just one stroke. Boden's back-nine score of 34 was the best nine-hole score in the entire field.
The Blue Devils are one of only three teams in the field to post four round in the 70's. Par is 72 and Central is just 19 strokes over par as a team.
Senior Anna Ausanio followed teammate Boden marking down a 77 (39-38) and a share of 10th place. Senior Stephanie Bednar is tied for 15th and shot a 78 (41-37), sophomore Albrianna Farnum shot a 79 (42-37) and is currently tied for 17th. Senior Katie Reid carded an 85 (T33rd).
The Blue Devils are nine shots ahead of Fairleigh Dickinson (316), 22 in front of Sacred Heart and 56 strokes ahead of St. Francis (NY), the three other Northeast Conference teams in the field.
Tournament host St. John's leads the nine team field after posting a score of 301. Seton Hall is currently in second place and leads third place Central by just three strokes after shooting a 304. Fairleigh Dickinson (316) and Towson (323) round out the top-five.
The second and final round of the tournament will be played on Tuesday.
