After Day One, Central T9th at Rutgers
Albrianna Farnum led the Blue Devils with a career low 77.
The Central Connecticut women's golf team placed in the top half of the leader board after the opening round of the Rutgers Invitational scoring a 323. Ninth place Central is currently in a four-way tie with Lehigh, Delaware, and LIU-Brooklyn. Friday was the first round of the tournament, Saturday, October 6th will mark the second and final round.
Rutgers is hosting the two-day event in Piscataway, NJ. The par-72 course is playing 6,034 yards long.
After a 299 stroke performance, Seton Hall is first on the team leader board followed by second place Rutgers (304). St. John's (312), Monmouth (313), Fairleigh Dickinson (314), and Dartmouth (314) round out the top-five (FDU and Dartmouth tied for fifth).
Sophomore Albrianna Farnum set the pace for the Blue Devils in the first round writing in a career low 77. Farnum is tied for 12th place on the individual leader board and sits only five shots back of the tournament's individual leader Christina Cantu (72) of Seton Hall. Farnum wrote-in impressive scores of 38 and 39 on Friday's scorecard.
Senior Stephanie Bednar completed her first 18 of the tournament tied for 42nd with a pair of 40's. Bednar shot 40 on her first nine then followed with another 40 on her final nine as she left the course with an even 80.
Senior Anna Ausanio started the day off with a 43 and rebounded on the second half of her first 18 with a 39. She totaled 82 strokes on the day which puts her in a tie for 57th place.
Freshman Sarah Boden is tied for 71st place (84) and senior Katie Reid shares 89th place (87).
Central leads Norheast Conference rival 13th place Quinnipiac (324) by one stroke and 15th place Wagner (327) by four strokes. Mount St. Mary's (339), Sacred Heart (344), and St. Francis (NY) (363) also trail the Blue Devils.
Second round action of the Rutgers Invitational will be held tomorrow, Saturday, October 6th. It will be the final round of the tournament.
