Softball Falls to South Florida
The Blue Devils lost their first game of the USF Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The Central Connecticut softball team (5-5) had its five game winning streak snapped by the Bulls of South Florida (18-4) on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils fell behind early in the game, but held the Bulls in check until the sixth inning.
The Bulls posted four runs in the first inning off junior Nicole Springer. In her first start of the season, Springer allowed runs in the first inning, but settled down and pitched a scoreless second and third inning.
The Bulls tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Springer pitched four innings and allowed seven runs on 13 hits in the loss.
Sophomore Julie Marks pitched the final 1.1 innings of the game. She allowed three runs on two hits, but did strike out three batters. Marks surrendered a three run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning that put the Bulls ahead 10-0 and ended the game because of the eight run rule.
The Blue Devils return to action tomorrow morning with a game against Bradley. Central concludes play at the USF Under Armour Showcase with an exhibition game against the Netherlands Sunday afternoon.
