Gallo, Men's Golf Add Three for 2017-18 Season
Thomas Downing, Nick Piersall and Joseph Tucker will join the CCSU program for 2017-18.
Central Connecticut men's golf head coach Kyle Gallo announced the additions of Thomas Downing, Nick Piersall and Joseph Tucker to the program for 2017-18.
Downing is from Holliston, MA, and as a junior at Natick High School he won his second straight Bay State Conference champion with a 72. Downing is a two-time Boston Globe All-Scholastic honoree and was named MVP of his team all four years. He finished second in Division 1 South, shooting a 73. He shot a final round 72 to win the FCWT Newport 2016 tournament.
Piersall is from Portland, CT finished as runner-up to Downing at the FCWT Newport National. He is a two-time First Team All-State and two-time First Team All-Conference honoree at Portland High School. Piersall won individual state and conference tournament titles as a junior, leading Portland to team titles at both tournaments as well. He was named the Hartford Courant Player of the Year as a junior and is a two-time All-Hartford Courant team selection. Piersall has qualified to play for Team New England at Trump National Doral and has also qualified to play at the Doral Public Junior Golf Classic.
Tucker, from Warwick, RI, earned his third straight First Team All-State honor while golfing for Bishop Hendricken High School as a junior. He finished second at the the state tournament with a 36-hole total of 149 and also had the second-best stroke average during the regular season with a 36.66 in league team matches. He has golfed for Team Rhode Island in the New England Jr. Invitational in each of the past four seasons and is a three-time all-conference performer. In 2016 he was the No. 2 ranked junior golfer by the Rhode Island Golf Association and was the Potowomut Junior Club Champion in both 2013 and 2015. He was also the Potowomut Club Champion in the men's division in 2016 and won the 2016 Hendricken Invitational.
