Men's Golf Improves Score, but Falls to Seventh in the Team Standings
The Central Connecticut men's golf team improved their team score by one stroke to 305 for the second round of the Northeast Conference Championship. The CCSU squad shot a 306 during round one of the 54 hole event. The Blue Devils 611 stroke performance drops them to seventh in the team standings. The NEC Championships are being played on the 6,937 yard, par-72 Champions Gate Golf Course in Orlando, Florida.

For the second straight day senior Justin Hughes led the Blue Devil squad. He shot a 71 on the second day, paired with his first round 75, Hughes now has a 146 for the tournament. He is tied for 8th place in the individual standings.
Freshman Daniel Morgan and senior Justin Hughes remained consistent on day two. Morgan posted a 77, he is currently tied for 18th with a 153 stroke total. Hughes, dropped his second round score by three strokes. His rounds of 79 and 76 give him a 155 for the event, that is tied for 24th.
Sophomore Dan Fanion rebounded from a first round 84 to contribute an 81 in the second round. His 165 total keeps him in 48th place, but his round two score helped contribute to the team scoring.
Junior Kevin Josephson shot an 83 on Saturday, that total give him a 159 for the tournament. He sits in a tie for 35th.
Sacred Heart sits in first following two rounds. They have a team score of 582. All five of the Pioneers golfers are in the top-20 of the individual standings. C.G. Mercatoris is the individual leader with a three-under 141.
The final 18 holes will be played on Sunday, afterwards the NEC will crown their 2011 team and individual champions.
