Men's Golf Wins New England Division I Golf Championship
The Central Connecticut men's golf team shot an incredible day two score of 289 and claimed the New England Division I Men's Golf Championships on Sunday. The tournament was played at the Newport National Country Club in Middletown, RI. The course is a par-72 and is 7,244 yards long. The Blue Devils had four golfers shoot 73 or better on the second day of the tournament to claim the title.

Championships on Sunday. The tournament was played at the Newport
National Country Club in Middletown, RI. The course is a par-72
and is 7,244 yards long. The Blue Devils had four golfers shoot 73
or better on the second day of the tournament to claim the
title.
"I am real proud of the way we played today," head coach Kevin
Giancola said following the round on Sunday. " We had three guys
in the top six and they all played very well. We had four guys
shoot 73 or better in the final round. It has been a tough spring
but the guys have been coming around and it all clicked today. We
are looking forward to the Northeast Conference Championships."
Central sat in a tie for third place after the first day of the
championship on Saturday. They shot a day one score of 301 and
shot six shots back of leader Sacred Heart. The Blue Devils carded
a team score of 289 on Sunday, eight shots better than Sacred
Heart, and claimed the title by two strokes. They shot a two-day
total of 590 against a 592 by the Pioneers.
Junior Kevin
Josephson shot a -1 score of 71 on Sunday to lead the pack for
the Blue Devils. He finished in a tie for second place overall in
the tournament with a two day total of 145 (+1) for the two day
tournament. Senior Eric
Hawerchuk shot a +1 score of 73 on Sunday, giving his a two-day
score of 147 (+3) to finish in a tie for fourth place.
Freshman Daniel
Morgan shot an even par 72 to finish with a 148 (+4) and solo
possession of sixth place. Sophomore Dan
Fanion was the fourth Blue Devil to shoot a 73 or better on
Sunday, carding a 73 for a 152 (+8) and a finish in a tie for 16th
place. Senior Justin
Hughes carded a 77 and shot a 154 for the two-day
tournament.
Central's score of 289 was six strokes better than the second-best
round of the tournament. They were the only team to shoot below
290 on the weekend. Sacred Heart finished second, followed by
Fordham, Rhode Island and Connecticut to round out the top
five.
