Hollomon Earns National Honor from TSN
Sophomore Rob Hollomon was named The Sports Network FCS Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Sophomore running back Rob Hollomon has been named The Sports Networks National FCS Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. Hollomon earned Offensive Player of the Week honors from the Northeast Conference earlier on Monday. Hollomon had 307 all-purpose yards in the Blue Devils' 32-30 victory over Saint Francis (PA) on Saturday.
Hollomon shares the honor with Prairie View A&M sophomore quarterback De'Auntre Smiley. Smiley led his team to a victory over Southern University.
The Philadelpha native followed up his 208-yard rushing performance at Robert Morris, which came in a 37-31 setback, by compiling 207 yards on the ground in the win over Saint Francis (PA). In all, Hollomon totaled 287 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns against the Red Flash. The transfer from Kent State carried 24 times and added two receptions for 80 yards. He averaged 11.0 yards every time he touched the football.
The Blue Devils turned a 20-9 deficit into a 22-20 advantage on the strength of his two long scoring runs of 49 and 45 yards. Hollomon also came out of the backfield for a 49-yard catch-and-run that moved the ball from CCSU's own 14 into Saint Francis' half of field and set the stage for the Blue Devils' first touchdown.
Hollomon now owns the top-two individual rushing performances in Northeast Conference play this fall. His latest effort allowed him to join the likes of former Blue Devil Justise Hairston (2006) as the lone men to ever eclipse the 200-yard rushing mark in back-to-back Northeast Conference contests.
Hollomon joins fellow CCSU running backs Hairston (2004) and Cory Harge (2004) in receiving offensive player of the week honors from The Sports Network. Also, former CCSU running back James Mallory (2009) and kicker Derek Pearson (2005) won the FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week award from TSN. In 2004, linebacker Coree Tucker earned TSN FCS National Defensive Player of the Week honors.
In addition to Hollomon and Smiley, Portland State linebacker Ian Sluss, Tennessee State place-kicker/punter Jamin Godfrey and Montana State left tackle John Weidenaar also were recognized by The Sports Network.
This is the second consecutive week that Hollomon has received national recognition for his performance.
