Women's XC Takes Sixth At Stony Brook Season Opener
The Central Connecticut women's cross country team finished sixth in their season opening meet on Saturday at the Stony Brook University Cross Country Invitational.
The Central Connecticut women's cross country team finished sixth in its season opening meet on Saturday at the Stony Brook University Cross Country Invitational. The Blue Devils were led by senior Ally Gates at the meet who finished in 27th place overall.
STONY BROOK XC INVITATIONAL RESULTS
Gates paced Central with the 27th place finish, crossing the finish line with a time of 16:10.44. She was followed closely by sophomore Victoria Cronin who finished 32nd overall with a final time of 16:29.27.
Freshman Madeline Mondo, junior Brandy LeClair and senior Jazmin Booker rounded out the scoring runners for the Blue Devils finishing 35th, 37th and 38th respectively. Mondo came in with a time of 16:39.20, followed by LeClair at 16:47.96 and Booker with a mark of 16:56.14.
Freshman Dawn Hubbell also ran in the race for CCSU. The rookie completed her first collegiate cross country meet in 40th position with a final time of 17:03.27.
In total, CCSU tallied 169 points to pick up the sixth place finish. Two-time defending NEC champion Sacred Heart earned the victory at the meet scoring 45 total points. Host team, Stony Brook, was the runner up with a score of 52 points, followed by Massachusetts with a total of 53 to round out the top-three teams. Quinnipiac was fourth with 92 points ahead of Hartford (112) and then CCSU.
The meet featured six teams and 77 student-athletes over the 4K course on the campus of Stony Brook University.
The women's cross country team will return to action next Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Nassaney Invitational at the University of Bryant. The course in Smithfield, RI will be the same course the Blue Devils will face this season for the 2015 NEC Championships.
