Women's Cross Country Takes Eighth At Nassaney Invitational
Senior Ally Gates recorded a 37th place overall finish to lead the Central Connecticut women's cross country team to an eighth place team finish at the Shawn M. Nassaney Memorial Race on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Ally Gates recorded a 37th place overall finish to lead the Central Connecticut women's cross country team to an eighth place team finish at the Shawn M. Nassaney Memorial Race on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. The 5K meet featured 118 student-athletes from 12 different teams, including seven of the ten NEC schools that participate in women's cross country.

Gates paced the Blue Devils with her 37th place finish, crossing the finish line with a time of 19:25. Right behind Gates was sophomore Victoria Cronin coming in 40th place with a final time of 16:02.
Junior Brandy LeClair and freshman Madeline Mondo followed Cronin with 51st and 52nd place finishes respectively. LeClair clocked in a time of 20:02 and Mondo was right behind her finishing with a time of 20:02.
Junior Jazmin Booker rounded out the field for CCSU, picking up a 59th place overall finish with a time of 20:37. In total, Central combined for a team score of 239 with an average time of 19:55 to record the eighth place overall team finish.
Freshman Dawn Hubbell also competed in the race for CCSU. The rookie turned in a 60th place finish, crossing the finish line with a time 20:51.
Providence College earned the victory at the Nassaney Memorial Race, sweeping the top-five individual spots and logging a perfect team score of 15. Sacred Heart was second with a score of 75 followed by Boston U (92), Northeastern (125) and host team Bryant (140) to round out the top-five. Brown was sixth with 165 points ahead of Rhode Island (194), CCSU (239), Fairleigh Dickinson (254), Mount St. Mary's (283), LIU Brooklyn (297) and St. Francis Brooklyn (309) to round out the entire field.
The course the Blue Devils and rest of the NEC teams competed on on Saturday at Bryant University will also serve as this years course for the 2015 Northeast Conference Championships on Oct. 31. Sacred Heart led the NEC schools at the meet followed by Bryant. The Blue Devils were right behind Bryant and will look to improve to try and capture their first NEC Championship since 1999.
The CCSU women's cross country team will return to action into weeks on Saturday, Sept. 26 as they return to New Britain, CT and host the Ted Owen invitation at Stanley Quarter Park. The women's race is scheduled to kickoff at 11 a.m.
