Mendelson Finishes Eighth At New England XC Championships
Sophomore Brittany Mendelson finished eighth out of 265 runners and led the Central Connecticut women's cross country team to a 24th place finish at the 2015 New England Championships on Saturday in Boston, MA.
Sophomore Brittany Mendelson finished eighth out of 265 runners and led the Central Connecticut women's cross country team to a 24th place finish at the 2015 New England Championships on Saturday afternoon. The New England (NEICAAA) Championships were held at Franklin Park in Boston, MA.
Mendelson completed the 5k course in 17:59.9, averaging a 5:47.6 mile to pick up the eighth place individual finish in her first meet of the season. Senior Mara Lieberman was the next Blue Devil to cross the finish line. Lieberman finished with a time of 19:17.1 to earn a 114th place finish.
Seniors Ally Gates and Jazmin Booker were next, finishing 141st and 185th respectively. Gates turned in a final time of 19:29.1 and Booker completed the course at the 20:04.5 mark.
Rounding out the scoring runners for the Blue Devils was freshman Madeline Mondo who logged a 210th place individual finish. She clocked in a time of 20:24.6 to earn the result.
Sophomore Victoria Cronin and junior Brandy LeClair also competed in the meet for CCSU. Cronin finished just behind Mondo in 213th place with a final time of 20:27.3. LeClair came in 229th, crossing the finish line with a time of 20:43.2.
The Blue Devils averaged a time of 19:27 as a team and scored 658 points to record the 24th place result. Boston College earned the victory at the New England Championships with a team score of 56. Quinnipiac was runner-up scoring 144 points, followed by Yale (162), Stonehill (253) and MIT (255) to round out the top-five.
The women's cross country team will return to action in two weeks as they return home and host the CCSU Mini Meet on Friday, October 23. The meet will take place at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT at 3:30 p.m.
