Women's Cross Country 28th at New Englands
McBride leads the Blue Devils as top finisher
The Central Connecticut women's cross country team finished 28th out of 43 teams at the 2013 New England Championships on Saturday. The meet was held at Franklin Park in Boston, MA.
"I'm proud of the way we went out and competed today," head coach Eric Blake said. "We are a young group, and we continue to work hard, get better and compete every time we come out here. I'm proud of our effort."
Junior Shannon McBride paced the Blue Devils with a 132nd place finish. She clocked a time of 19:23 on the 5K course. She was followed closely by sophomore Ally Gates (134th, 19:24). Each posted a 6:15 average mile in the race. Sophomore Jazmin Booker finished 169th (19:46), followed by classmate Caylee Richardson (191st, 20:03) and freshman Sarah Woxholdt (198th, 20:15) to round out the scoring for the Blue Devils.
Central's 824 points were good for 28th place overall. Sophomore Brandy LeClair (218th, 20:30) and freshman Alexis Conte (247, 21:08) also ran for the Blue Devils.
New Hampshire won the team title, followed by UConn, Yale, Boston University and Middlebury in the top five.
