Women's XC Takes 2nd at Fairfield; McBride 1st Overall
The Blue Devils placed three in the top 10.
The Central Connecticut women's cross country team secured second place at the Sixth Annual Fr. Laurence O'Niel, S.J. Invitational Saturday. Three Blue Devils placed in the top 10 of the competition while junior Shannon McBride paced the squad, claiming first place overall in the 4K with her time of 16:23.81.
McBride crossed the finish line over 13 seconds before her closest competition, Stephanie Vickers of Fairfield. The pair was followed by sophomore Ally Gates who finished third overall with her time of 16:43.37. Sophomore Caylee Richardson rounded out the top 10 finishers for Central, claiming ninth and crossing the line in 17:16.68.
Freshman Alexis Conte completed the race fourth for the Blue Devils, registering a time of 18:17.88, good for 21st overall. Junior Taylor LePage rounded out the scoring for Central, crossing the finish line 25th with her time of 18:46.20.
Fairfield claimed the win on the day, accumulating only 41 team points. Central followed with 54, Stevens Institute took third with 59, and Hofstra (71) finished fourth.
The Blue Devils will return home for their next meet as they host the 11th Annual Ted Owen Invitational on Saturday, September 21 at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT. The women's race is set to begin at 11:45 a.m.
