Volleyball Drops NEC Opener to Chicago State
The Central Connecticut volleyball team opened Northeast Conference play on Friday night, falling to Chicago St., 3-0, at Detrick Gymnasium. Lauren Milani led the Blue Devils with 11 kills.
The teams will meet again on Saturday at 1:00 pm.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Blue Devils and Cougars traded runs early in the first set as it was tied, 4-4. Amanda Tokam would serve four straight points as CCSU took an early, 7-4 lead. CSU would tie the set at 9-9 before a kill by Milani gave Central its last lead at 12-11. The Cougars scored three straight points to go ahead for good and would lead by as much as 21-14 before winning the frame.
- A block by Tokam and Weronika Poczynek put Central up 4-2 to begin the second set, but CSU would score six straight and go ahead for good at 8-4. The Cougars closed the set on an 8-2 run to take a two-set advantage.
- CCSU led, 5-4, in the third set after a kill by Tokam, but the Cougars responded with five straight points to take the lead. CSU stretched its lead to 14-8 after five unanswered points and the Blue Devils were unable to get closer than five points the rest of the way.

15 – Each team committed 15 attack errors in the match, including combining for 14 in the opening set.
NOTES
- The teams were meeting for the first time in Northeast Conference play. CCSU won, 3-0, on Sept. 4, 2015 in the only previous meeting.
- Milani hit a team-best .310 in the match and added seven digs.
- Denomme had a team-high nine digs.
- Larissa Hiemer finished with 10 assists.
