Goldman Recaptures NEC Diver of the Week Honor
Sophomore Jessica Goldman earns the award after breaking her own CCSU record in the 1-meter with a score of 258.67.
Central Connecticut diver Jessica Goldman has been named NEC Diver of the Week for the fifth time this season, the conference announced Thursday. The sophomore swept the award for the first four weeks of the 2013-14 season and brings the title back to CCSU after her record-breaking performance at Florida International University on Jan. 11.
The five-time NEC Diver of the Week registered a score of 258.67 from the 1-meter board while competing at Florida International University, surpassing her own record of 256.25. Goldman broke the previous 1-meter record of 253.90 in November, set by Juliana Diplacido in 2005.
Goldman earned second place overall for her 1-meter performance at FIU and also competed in the 3-meter diving event in which she finished third with her score of 207.97.
This week marks the sixth NEC Diver of the Week honor awarded to a CCSU diver this season. Goldman has been tabbed with the honor five times while teammate Kaitlyn Beaver was named NEC Diver of the Week on Nov. 26.
The Blue Devils will return to action this Saturday, Jan. 25, for Senior Day at the Jack Suydam Natatorium in New Britain, CT. CCSU will take on NEC foes Sacred Heart and St. Francis Brooklyn at 2 p.m.
