Women's Soccer Home Opener Sunday
The Blue Devils will play their first home game against Providence.
The Blue Devils (1-2-0) will face the Providence Friars (2-2-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. for their first home contest of the 2012 season. This will be the first game the team has played on the new CCSU Soccer Field.
Central enters the match coming off of a 4-0 win over the New Hampshire Wildcats on Aug. 26 at the University of Vermont tournament. Four Blue Devils scored in the match: sophomores Kerriann Welch and Lauren Varholak, junior captain Jewel Robinson and NEC Rookie of the Week, Taylor O'Leary, who received national recognition on ESPN SportsCenter for her impressive play in the game. Junior Allison Kelley came away with two assists followed by Robinson, sophomore Christina Boucher and senior Cara Cavallari who each posted one.
Central boasted the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, Welch, and came away from Vermont victorious as they earned the tournament Champions title.
Providence comes off of a 4-0 victory over Lehigh on Aug. 31 preceded by a 1-0 loss at Quinnipiac on Aug. 26. The last meeting between Central and the Friars was on Sept. 2, 2011 and yielded a 2-1 win for the Blue Devils.
