"This has become an annual event for us," head coach Mick D'Arcy said on Sunday. "I think our players get as much, if not more, out of it than the young girls. Our student-athletes can serve as great role models for these young girls. It's a fun morning and a chance for us to connect with the community."
D'Arcy and the Blue Devils opened the 2012 season this past Friday night at nationally-ranked Boston University.
Next weekend the Blue Devils will travel the University of Vermont for a game on Friday against the Catamounts and one on Sunday vs. New Hampshire.
Central then returns home on Sunday, Sept. 2 to host Providence at 1 p.m. on the new CCSU Soccer Field. It is the first home game on the new turf for the women's team.
On Sunday, Sept. 9 Central will host UConn at 1 p.m. Admission to all CCSU soccer games is free of charge.
"We made a push during today's clinic to try and get many of these young girls to come to our home games, especially the first two on Sept. 2 and Sept. 9," D'Arcy said. "Today they got a chance to interact with our female student-athletes, learn a few skills and most important, they all had a lot of fun."
Following the one hour clinic on Sunday, the Blue Devils stuck around to sign autographs for the girls in attendance. Each participant received a 2012 CCSU women's soccer team photo that was then autographed by the Blue Devils.
