Women's Soccer Defeats Monmouth 2-0 at Home on Sunday Afternoon
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team won its second straight home match, 2-0, over visiting Monmouth on Sunday afternoon on Arute Field. Freshman Jewel Robinson scored her first career goal and senior Beth Lloyd scored her 11th goal of the season in the victory. Central is now 6-7-1 overall and 2-2-1 in Northeast Conference play. Monmouth falls to 7-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the league.

Robinson scored her first career goal in the 37th minute of action
in the first half. Following a foul by the Hawks just outside the
top of the box, Robinson took the direct kick and beat the Monmouth
keeper to the lower right side of the goal for the 1-0 lead.
The Blue Devils held a 4-2 edge in shots, including a 3-1
advantage in shots on the goal in the first period. Monmouth's Lia
Fierro made a pair of saves but allowed the half's only goal.
In the 77th minute the Blue Devils had another prime chance to
score a goal. On a breakaway chance, freshman Nikki
Kureczka's shot sailed over the goal and the score remained
1-0.
Lloyd added her team-leading 11th goal of the season with under a
minute to play in the game. She took a pass from freshman Kerriann
Welch and sent it to the left side of the goal for the 2-0 lead
with 49 seconds to play.
Central's goalkeeper Nikola
Deiter made a pair of saves in net to preserve her second
shutout of the season. The freshman improves her record to 4-7
overall this year.
The Blue Devils held a 10-4 advantage in shots in the game. They
also had a 5-2 edge in shots on goal.
The Blue Devils return to action next week on the road at Robert Morris and St. Francis (PA). The Blue Devils will play at RMU on Friday at 4 p.m. followed by a trip to St. Francis (PA) at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
