
Second-Half Surge Leads Lacrosse To Win At Howard
Gaudio tallied five goals in Blue Devils victory
The Central Connecticut State lacrosse team defeated Northeast Conference host Howard, 16-8, Saturday afternoon in Washington, DC. The Blue Devils improve to 1-9 overall and 1-3 in league play, while the Bison fall to 1-9 on the season and 1-3 in NEC action.
Sky Gaudio scored a career-best five goals to lead the CCSU offense on Saturday. Bella Santas and Alexa Efron both had hat tricks in the win.
The Blue Devils return to action next Saturday, April 5th, when they host NEC foe Delaware State. Game time at Arute Field is set for 1:00 pm.
KEY MOMENTS
- Howard jumped out to a 3-0 lead, scoring 59 seconds into he game and building that advantage with 9:43 to play in the first quarter
- Makayla Winegar put CCSU on the board, scoring a free position tally midway through the quarter
- Howard answers with a Leah Croom tally at 3:54, Abbey Cannon fed Gaudio for her first tally of the day, to end the open period with the Bison leading 4-2
- Gaudio scored again to open the second quarter this time a pass from Winegar, as the Blue Devils closed within a tally
- Winegar brought CCSU event, 4-4, with an unassisted goal at 9:59 of the second quarter, and Katie Hurlbut put the Blue Devils in front with an 8-meter shot with 8:03 to play before intermission
- Howard scored twice in the final 5:54 of the quarter to take a 6-5 lead into the break
- The Blue Devils scored the only goals of the third quarter, with Gaudio and Santos scoring three times a piece in the period, to take aa 12-6 lead
- Addison Papagolos (13:28) and Efron (9:27) extend the CCSU run to nine goals and the lead to 14-6 in the fourth quarter
- After a Croom tally, Cannon and Efron scored 41 seconds apart to give CCSU a nine-goal advantage, 16-7, with 5:49 to play

- Central had a 14-13 edge in draw controls, with three apiece from Winegar and Cannon
- Gaudio had five points, all goals, while Efron and Santos finished with three apiece
- Winegar had two goals and an assist for her three points, to go along with three caused turnovers
- The Blue Devils caused 12 turnovers on the afternoon, with Cara Kielbasa and Krista Mazariegos both causing three in the game
- Kylee Payne had a team-best two assists
- Jayden Jones made six saves, against two goals allowed, in her 32:09, in earning the victory in goal
