
Lacrosse Earns 11-9 NEC Win Over FDU
Four players score twice each in victory
The Central Connecticut State lacrosse team overcame rainy and windy conditions to defeat visiting Northeast Conference foe FDU 11-9 on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devilsimprove to 2-6 on the year and 2-2 in league play, while the Knights fall to 1-9 on the season and 1-3 in NEC action.
Four players scored two goals apiece in the win, led by the four points of Lauren Valluzzi, who added two assists.
The Blue Devils will return to Arute Field on Wednesday to host Merrimack at 3:00 pm in NEC action.
KEY MOMENTS
- The Blue Devils scored the first two goals in quick fashion, with Makayla Winegar (13:21) and Valluzzi (12:31) striking early
- Valluzzi scored again at the 7:33 mark of the first quarter to give CCSU a 3-0 advantage
- FDU tallied consecutive goals, Brielle McInaw (2:29) and Addie Weidner (2:14) to close within a tally
- Shaelyn Yermal scored 62 seconds later for the Blue Devils, who took the 4-2 lead to the second period
- Brieanna Bernier and Cara Kielbasa scored at 10:40 and 9:25 of the second quarter to give CCSU a 6-2 lead
- After a scoring drought for both teams, the Knights tallied goals with 2:02 and 1:34 to play in the half and sent the game to intermission with CCSU in front 6-4
- Talie Richardson again gave the Blue Devils the opening goal of a period, scoring 72 seconds into the third quarter
- FDU answerd with back-to-back goals at 13:09 and 11:34 of the third, to close within a score, 7-6
- CCSU answered with four striahg goals, starting with a Winegar tally with 6:19 remaining in the third
- Richardson scored with 3:06 to play in that period and Yermal with six seconds left to give CCSU a 10-6 lead
- Bella Santos rounded out the scoring for CCSU 44 seconds into the final period, with a goal on a Richardson pass for the 11-6 lead
- McInaw scored at 7:38 and 6:04 of that period to close within 11-8, and Riley Eaton finished the scoring with an player advantage goal with 2:14 to play

- In addition to her two goals an assist, Richardson picked up seven ground balls, caused five turnovers and collected six draw controls
- Kya Risher made a dozen saves, as well as collecting six ground balls in goal for CCSU
- Yermal had two goals and an assists, while Kielbasa added a goal, an assist and two caused turnovers
- Jill Levis contributed four of the Blue Devils game-high 26 ground balls, as well as causing two turnovers
