Evie Rentzel Named NEC Softball Scholar-Athlete
Senior won a pair of NEC titles in her career with the Blue Devils
Senior Evie Rentzel, a two-time Northeast Conference champion, was named the 2016 NEC Softball Scholar-Athlete on Tuesday. Rentzel and the Blue Devils won NEC titles in 2013 and 2015, and she is a four-time member of the NEC Academic Honor Roll.
Rentzel led the Blue Devils in batting average (.336, ninth in NEC), slugging percentage (.511), on-base percentage (.395), runs batted in (26), homers (four) and triples (two) this past spring en-route to first team All-NEC honors. She hit .375 and slugged .646 in league play. Rentzel, who was also a second team All-NEC pick as a freshman, earned recognition on the Travelers Athletic Directors All-Academic Team.
Rentzel finished her career with the Blue Devils with a .315 career average, including 169 hits, 93 RBI, 13 home runs and a career on-base percentage of .372. She played in 184 career games and scored 85 runs. Her .315 average is seventh in school history, while she ranks fourth all-time in hits, sixth in runs scored, fifth in RBI, t-9th in home runs, t-6th in doubles (28) and third in total bases (248).
Rentzel and the Blue Devils won a pair of NEC titles in her tenure, and the team finished with a record of 114-71-1 in her four seasons.
