Softball Splits With Wagner at Home on Sunday
CCSU is now 3-1 in NEC play this season
The Central Connecticut softball team sp;it a doubleheader at home with Wagner College on Sunday. The Blue Devils won the first game, 4-1, but dropped the second 4-2. The Blue Devils are now 13-17-1 overall and 3-1 in Northeast Conference play. Wagner is 14-21 overall and 1-7 in the NEC.
In game one the Blue Devils struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Senior Evie Rentzel's two-run home run to center field gave Central the early lead.
Central added a run in the bottom of the third inning. A sacrifice fly from freshman Kerri Dadalski made it 3-0. Sophomore Brittany Camara's RBI single in the third inning pushed the lead to 4-0.
Wagner scored a run in the top of the fifth inning on a solo home run off of Blue Devil sophomore Emily Sargent. Sarent earned the complete game victory as the Blue Devils won the first game 4-1. She went the distance, allowing just five hits and one run while striking out two Wagner batters.
In game two the Blue Devils struck first with a single run in the bottom of the third inning. Dadalski singled home the run, her second RBI of the day, to give the Blue Devils the lead.
Wagner answered and took their first lead of the day in the top of the fourth inning. Brianna Tredway hit a three-run home run off of Blue Devil freshman starter Alex Casanas to give the Seahawks a 3-1 lead. Central loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the inning but could not bring home a run.
The Blue Devils got a run back and cut the lead to 3-2 on a sacrifice fly from senior Eileen Purcell in the bottom of the fifth inning. Wagner added a run in the top of the sixth to make it 4-2.
Casanas went the distance for the Blue Devils pitching seven innings and allowing four runs on six hits while striking out five. The Blue Devils left 10 runners on base in the game.
The Blue Devils will be back in action hosting UMass Lowell in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
