Softball Falls in DH at Hofstra
The Central Connecticut softball team dropped a pair of games to the Pride.
The Central Connecticut softball team dropped a doubleheader at Hofstra on Tuesday night. The Blue Devils (20-14, 2-4 NEC) fell by scores of 6-0 and 11-3 to the Pride (20-12). Sophomore Tessa Brown had the Blue Devils' big hit on the day, a three-run home run.
Game One
The Blue Devils fell behind early in game one with the Pride scoring five runs in the bottom of the first. The big blast was a grand slam by Hofstra's Krista Thorn.
The Blue Devils managed just three base runners in the game, as current National Player of the Week Olivia Galati limited Central to a pair of hits and a walk.
Sophomore Arielle Bruno hit a triple, her fourth of the season, and junior Stephanie Chotkevys singled for Central's other hit. Freshman Alyssa McCoart drew the Blue Devils' walk.
Junior Jordan Tingley pitched for the Blue Devils, she allowed six runs on eight hits over six innings. She walked two batters and struck out one. She falls to 3-3 on the season with the loss.
Game Two
The Blue Devils claimed a 3-2 lead in the middle of game two, but were unable to hold on against the Hofstra offense.
Hofstra plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning, but the Blue Devils responded with three runs in the top of the third.
In the third, Bruno walked to start the frame and senior Rebecca Mussatti doubled to center to set up second and third with no one out. Brown drove a three-run home run to left field to give her squad its first lead of the game. The home run was the second of the year for Brown.
The Pride posted a single run off sophomore Julie Marks to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Marks surrendered three more runs in the fourth inning.
Junior Abby Harpp entered the game to start the fifth inning and worked a scoreless frame in the circle. Harpp allowed five runs in the sixth inning as the Pride ended the game because of the eight-run rule.
Marks took the loss and falls to 2-4 on the season.
Bruno, Mussatti and Brown each had a hit for the Blue Devils. McCoart had a pair of hits including a double. Four of Central's five hits went for extra bases.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday with a doubleheader at Sacred Heart.
