The Central Connecticut softball team defeated Miami (OH), 5-3, on Friday evening.
The Central Connecticut softball team defeated Miami (OH) behind seven strong innings from junior Jordan Tingley on Friday evening. Tingley limited the Redhawks to only one earned run in the 5-3 victory.
The Blue Devil offense exploded for five runs in the opening frame against the Redhawks.
Sophomore Arielle Bruno lined a single to right field to start the game and then with two outs junior Nicole Springer was hit by a pitch to set up first and second two outs.
Sophomore Tessa Brown followed with a single to left that scored Central's first run. Freshman Alyssa McCoart walked to load the bases ahead of senior Macy Stefanski, who delivered a two-run single to center.
Senior Sarah Vlahos followed with a single and a throwing error scored Central's fourth run of the inning. The Blue Devils' final run came when freshman Ashley Black beat out an infield single, with Stefanski racing home.
From that point it was up to Tingley, who delivered seven innings in which she allowed three runs, one earned, and five hits.
The Blue Devil defense helped Tingley escape jams in the second, sixth and seventh innings. In all, Tingley stranded nine Redhawk base runners over the game, including the tying runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
"I'm really proud of this team because of how far they have come," head coach Jeff Franquet said after the game. "Those are two great programs that we played today and I thought our team came out and did a great job of competing especially Jordan."
The Blue Devils return to action tomorrow with a game against Penn State and then a match-up with the host Bulls of South Florida.
