MTF Earns 21 All-NEC Spots; Blake & Staff Recognized
Head Coach Eric Blake and his staff were named NEC Coach/Coaching Staff of the Year
The Northeast Conference has announced the all-conference selections for indoor and outdoor track and field. With the 2014 Men's Outdoor Champion Blue Devils earning an impressive 12 All-NEC selections during the outdoor campaign to go along with nine honorees from the indoor season. In addition, head coach Eric Blake and his staff were named NEC Coach/Coaching Staff of the Year for men's outdoor track.
Indoor
During the indoor season the Blue Devils earned nine spots with four coming on the first team, one on the second and four on the all-rookie team.
Junior Jamal Fruster (400m), senior Brian Biekert (Mile), senior Craig Hunt (5,000m) and the distance medley relay (Patrick Hubbell, Chris Savidou, Thomas Luppoli, Brian Biekert) team all captured gold at the indoor meet and First Team All-NEC honors as a result of their victories.
Hunt also collected a second team nod by finishing second in the 3,000 meter run.
Freshmen Kendall Walker (60m), Thomas Lupoli (800m), Derek French (Mile) and Tyler Raymond (5,000m) each earned NEC All-Rookie honors as the top freshman finisher in their respective events.
Outdoor
On the way to a first NEC Outdoor Track and Field title, the Blue Devils collected 12 all-conference nods, including five first team, four second team and three all-rookie.
Biekert and Hunt each collected a pair of First Team All-NEC selections by virtue of winning two events. Biekert won the 1,500 meters and the steeple chase, while Hunt captured the 5,000 meter and 10,000 meter. Junior Jamal Fruster earned First Team All-NEC honors by winning the 400 meters.
Three Blue Devils combined for four second team spots by finishing second in events. Junior Patrick Hubbell earned silver in the 1,500 meters and junior Jordan Watkins placed second in the 110 meter hurdles. Junior Matt Walker collected a pair of second team honors as he placed second in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter events.
Freshman Colin Sauter collected a pair of NEC All-Rookie honors as the top freshman in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs. Freshman Brendan Callahan also earned all-rookie honors in the steeple chase.
