Men's Soccer Shutout at Saint Francis U on Friday
The Blue Devils travel to Robert Morris on Sunday.
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision at Saint Francis U on Friday afternoon in Loretto, PA. The Blue Devils were shutout by the Red Flash on the home team's Senior Day.
CCSU's record slips to 2-10-3 overall and 1-3-1 in Northeast Conference play, while SFU is now 10-5-2 overall and 3l-1-2 in the NEC.
The Red Flash opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Francis de Vries scored off a free kick after his attempt deflected off the defensive wall and into the net to make it 1-0.
SFU doubled the lead after halftime in the 51st minute after Troye Kiernan fed Mario Mastrangelo off a rebound and Mastrangelo placed his shot low down the middle of the goal to make it 2-0.
de Vries got his second of the day with just over 20 minutes to play. de Vries scored a header off a corner kick and was assisted by Nicco Mastrangelo and Stefan Sjekloca to make it 3-0.
Senior Nick Velleca started in goal for CCSU and made three saves in 69:03 of action. The Blue Devils and Red Flash each had five corner kicks, while SFU held a 14-3 advantage in shots.
The Blue Devils travel to Robert Morris for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff on Sunday.
