Men's Soccer and Howard Play to 0-0 Draw in Double Overtime
Blue Devils are now 0-3-2 on the season after their second tie
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team played to a 0-0 double overtime draw with Howard on Wednesday afternoon in New Britain. The tie moves CCSU's record to 0-3-2 on the season. They will return to action at home on Sunday hosting Canisius at 12 p.m.
The game was the second at home for the Blue Devils this season and their first in a four-game non-conference homestand. Following Sunday's vs. Canisius the Blue Devils will also host Manhattan on Wednesday, Sept. 21 and Saint Joseph's on Saturday, Sept. 24.
Central goalkeepers Carson D'Ambrosio and Nick Velleca each made one stop in net for the Blue Devils in the draw. Velleca played the first half while D'Ambrosio played the second half and the two overtime periods.
The Blue Devils held a 12-9 edge in shots in the game, and a 3-2 edge in shots on goal. Howard goalkeeper Kenneth Hersey made three saves, including one in the second half on a CCSU 2-on-1 attempt, and another in the final 30 seconds of overtime to preserve the draw.
Central held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks, including one with under 10 seconds to play in the second overtime, but they were unable to convert them into a goal.
Howard is now 1-4-2 overall with the draw.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Sunday, hosting Canisius on the CCSU Soccer Field at 12 noon.
