Men's Soccer Drops Contest at Hartford, 2-0, on Tuesday
Blue Devils wrap up non-conference schedule at UMass on October 4.
Central Connecticut was shutout, 2-0, in men's soccer action against local rival Hartford on Tuesday night at Al-Marzook Field in West Hartford, CT. The Hawks held a slim, 12-10, margin in shots and scored a goal in each half to pick up the win.
The Blue Devils' record slips to 1-6-2 on the season.
Hartford scored just over eight minutes into the game. Christophe Am Ende fed Andri Jonasson who put home a rebounded shot from 10 yards away to the near post to make it 1-0 at the 8:15 mark.
The Blue Devils would apply pressure in an attempt to level the score. Less than a minute after the opening score, Central would move into scoring position and senior Daquan King would send a volley at goal from distance, but Jimmy Slayton was able to deflect the shot away.
In the 17th minute, off a free kick senior Alexander Hastings was able to get a header on target, but Slayton again made the stop.
Senior Nick Velleca would make five saves in the opening half to keep CCSU within 1-0 at halftime.
Central had a chance to level in the 62nd minute after junior Ryan Taylor slipped past the Hawks defense and centered a pass for sophomore Louis Beddouri who had a shot from close-range. His shot from inside six yards was stopped by Slayton.
The Hawks got an insurance goal with just over nine minutes to play. On a throw-in Kelechi Akujobi got it to Jonasson who set up Christian Deaconson. Deaconson put his shot just inside the far post to make it 2-0.
Velleca finished the night with seven saves for the Blue Devils. Slayton made four saves to post the cleansheet for Hartford.
The Blue Devils close out their non-conference slate with a contest at Massachusetts on Tuesday, October 4. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
