Men's Soccer Picks Up Victory With Home Shutout Over Manhattan
Daquan King scores a pair of goals in the victory for the Blue Devils
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team shut out Manhattan 3-0 on Wednesday night in New Britain to pick up its first victory of the season. The Blue Devils, now 1-4-2 overall, scored twice in the first half and once more in the second to post the win over the Jaspers.
Manhattan is now 0-6-1 on the season after the loss.
Junior Carson D'Ambrosio picked up his first career win, making a pair of saves in 76 minutes of action. Senior Nick Vellecca played the final 14 minutes and did not allow a goal and made one save to preserve the shutout.
Central opened the scoring just over six minutes into the game when Manhattan turned the ball over in the midfield. The ball bounced ahead to junior Ryan Taylor who held off the defense in the 18-yard box and slipped a pass to senior Daquan King from eight yards out. King ripped his shot to the left side past the keeper for a 1-0 lead.
King doubled the Blue Devils' lead in the 33rd minute when he took a couple dribbles on the right wing and settled the ball before ripping a shot to far post to make it 2-0.
The Blue Devils tacked on a goal with a half hour to play off a corner kick. Senior Cooper D'Ambrosio sent the kick in from the right corner and freshman David Bergstrom headed the ball to the left corner to make it 3-0 at the 59:35 mark.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in New Britain hosting Saint Joseph's.
