Men's Soccer Stopped by Saint Joseph's, 2-0, on Saturday Night
Blue Devils play at Hartford on Tuesday night.
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team dropped a non-conference matchup against Saint Joseph's, 2-0, on Saturday night on CCSU Soccer Field. The Blue Devils outshot the Hawks, 15-12, but a pair of goals for SJU in a three-minute span was the difference.
CCSU's record slips to 1-5-2 on the season.
The teams played a scoreless first half, although the Blue Devils had a decisive 9-0 edge in corner kicks and held a 9-5 margin in shots.
The Hawks broke the deadlock early in the second half. In the 65th minute Derek MacKinnon and Mike Stuski combined to put the ball down the right wing where MacKinnon sent a cross in and Matt Crawford was able to get his head to it and put it into the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Crawford picked up his second of the night almost three minutes later when the Hawks were the beneficiaries of a penalty call. Crawford took the kick from the spot and placed it in the left side to make it 2-0.
Senior Nick Velleca finished the night with one save for Central, while SJU's Greg O'Connell made six stops. The Blue Devils outshot the Hawks, 15-12, and had a 12-2 edge in corner kicks.
Central returns to action on Tuesday, September 27, at Hartford in a 7:00 p.m. match.
