Jean-Guillaume Named Northeast Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week
The junior running back has won the honor in back-to-back weeks.
Central Connecticut junior running back Drew Jean-Guillaume was named the Northeast Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, it was announced by the league office. It is the second straight week Jean-Guillaume has collected the weekly honor.
Jean-Guillaume helped power the Blue Devils' offense in their 48-14 win at Bryant, gaining more than 200 yards from scrimmage for the second week in a row. The junior running back carried 23 times for 203 yards and one touchdown while adding 20 yards on three receptions. Averaging 8.8 yards per carry, Jean-Guillaume accounted for the highest single-game rushing total by a NEC athlete against a Division I opponent this season.
Jean-Guillaume accounted for key plays on each of CCSU's first three touchdown drives. With CCSU facing a 14-0 deficit and 4:17 left in the opening quarter, the junior ran 12 yards into Bryant territory on a 2nd-and-7 play. The Blue Devils' first possession of the second quarter started on the CCSU 10-yard line, but Jean-Guillaume kick-started the eventual scoring drive by converting a 3rd-and-5 situation with an 8-yard reception.
On CCSU's next possession, which began with the Blue Devils facing a 14-13 deficit and 7:24 remaining in the second quarter, Jean-Guillaume ran 17 yards across mid-field and down to the opponent's 37-yard line.
With Central holding a 28-14 advantage early in the fourth quarter, Guillaume broke free for an 84-yard gain down to Bryant's 2-yard line. After penalties pushed CCSU back to the 28-yard line, the junior running back ran for seven yards on a second down followed by a 21-yard scoring scamper.
Guillaume powered a rushing attack that gained 442 yards on the ground, the second-highest single game total in school history and the most since 462 vs. St. Francis U in 2006. CCSU's 667 yards of total offense would have been a school-record before gaining 699 yards at Robert Morris last week.
JEAN-GUILLAUME'S WEEK 7 STATS: 223 scrimmage yards, 23 rushes, 203 rush yards, 1 rush TD, 3 receptions, 20 receiving yards
The Blue Devils host their Homecoming game this weekend, kicking off against Sacred Heart on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The game will be carried on ESPN3.
