Rossomando Resigns as Head Football Coach, McCarthy Named Interim Head Coach
Rossomando spent five seasons at CCSU and won the 2017 NEC title
Central Connecticut State University head football coach Pete Rossomando has resigned to become the offensive line coach at Rutgers University. Rossomando recently completed his fifth season with the Blue Devils, and led CCSU to the 2017 Northeast Conference (NEC) title and the NCAA FCS Playoffs a year ago.
"We thank Coach Rossomando for his commitment to our football program and to our student-athletes over the last five years. We wish him the very best," CCSU President Zulma R. Toro said on Wednesday. "We are confident that we will continue to build on our success in the Northeast Conference, and our football program will remain a point of pride for our University."
The Blue Devils won the NEC title in 2017 with an unbeaten 6-0 record in conference play, advancing to the NCAA Playoffs for the first time in school history. In 2018 CCSU finished 6-5 overall and 4-2 in the NEC, playing for their second straight title in the final week of the season before dropping a 38-31 decision to league champion Duquesne.
"I speak for our entire department in thanking Pete and wishing him well in New Jersey. We will remember Pete's success on the field, including a league title in 2017, and also his success mentoring our student-athletes," Director of Athletics Brian Barrio said. "During his five seasons, he helped to create a level of sustainable success that we will now look to build on. When you have a successful program, you have to be prepared for these changes, and we are."
"I want to thank CCSU President Dr. Zulma Toro, Vice President Chris Galligan, late CCSU President Jack Miller, Athletic Director Brian Barrio and the entire CCSU family for the last five seasons," Rossomando said. "I loved my time with the Blue Devils. The time has come for a new challenge, and I'm excited to begin this next venture. I have spoken with my staff and players, they all know the love I have for each and every one of them."
Ryan McCarthy, CCSU's offensive coordinator, has been named interim head coach for the Blue Devils 2019 season.
