Baseball Drops Series Finale
Blue Devils now 18-16 overall and 11-9 in NEC
The Central Connecticut baseball game dropped an 11-3 decision at home to Monmouth in the last game of a weekend Northeast Conference series on Sunday. Senior A.J. Lowers drove in a pair of runs in the loss. The teams split the series for the weekend.
With the loss the Blue Devils are now 18-16 overall and 11-9 in the NEC. Monmouth improves to 22-14 overall and 11-5 in the NEC.
Monmouth led from the start, scoring five runs in the first and five more in the fourth inning to lead 10-0 and chase Central freshman starter Casey Brown from the game. Brown falls to 2-3 on the season with the loss.
Monmouth led 11-0 before the Blue Devils got on the board with a run in the fifth. They added one more in the sixth and one in the seventh to cut the lead to 11-3.
Lowers ended the game with a pair of RBI for the Blue Devils. Sophomore Josh Ingham added an RBI. Central had 11 hits in the game, but managed only three runs. Lowers had three, and sophomore Anthony Turgeon and senior Mitch Wells each had two.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Tuesday on the road at UMass beginning at 3 p.m.
