Nesmith, Women's Track & Field Earn NEC Honors
The Blue Devils collected eight all-Northeast Conference honors.
Junior Sierra Nesmith was named the Most Valuable Performer to lead the Central Connecticut women's track and field honorees recognized by the Northeast Conference on Tuesday. Nesmith was one of eight honorees to earn all-conference recognition for their performances at the NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Nesmith won a pair of events at the league's championship meet, claiming victory in the 400 meter hurdles (1:02.27) and the triple jump (11.63m). In all, she tallied a meet-high 26 points to help CCSU to a second-place finish at the championships.
Senior Brittany Mendelson capped her decorated career with a championship in the 5000 meter run with a time of 17:14.47 to earn First Team honors. She earned Second Team honors with a second-place finish in the 10,0000 meter run, clocking in at 36:49.35.
Sophomore Megan Brawner won the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:39.80 and earned All-NEC First Team honors.
Junior McKenna Kilian earned second team honors in the long jump. She posted a jump of 5.51 meters at the outdoor championships. During the indoor season, she became the first CCSU jumper in program history to win the long jump event.
The 4x800 meter relay team of Brawner, junior Madeline Mondo and freshmen Angie Rafter and Kiley Rodriguez was named All-NEC Second Team after placing second at the NEC Championships with a time of 9:26.71.
Rafter collected All-Rookie Team honors in the 800 meter event. She placed fourth at the championships with a time of 2:16.83. She set a program-record in the event at the CCSU Blue Devil Invite during the season.
