Women's Indoor Track Earns Four First Place Finishes at Yale on Saturday
The Blue Devils will compete next on Saturday, Jan. 19 in Boston, MA for the Joe Donahue Invite.
Junior McKenna Kilian, junior Sierra Nesmith, sophomore Hailey Rospierski and the distance medley relay team comprised of freshmen Megan Brawner, Hannah Kelm, Angie Rafter and junior Madeline Mondo all claimed first place finishes for the Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team on Saturday at the 36th Annual Yale Collegiate Invitational.
Kilian out-jumped Sacred Heart freshman Antonia Hoyos in the long jump with a top length of 5.20 meters. Rospierski and Kelm also competed in long jump, taking fourth place and seventh place, respectively.
Rospierski excelled in the high jump clearing the 1.65 meter mark to win the event and Kilian came in second place with a 1.55 meter jump, just .01m shy of her collegiate best.
The triple jump top spot in the final standing belonged to Nesmith with a mark of 11.09 meter, who finished well beyond the rest of the top-five athletes who all recorded a jump of 10.69 and below. Kelm fell into fifth place with a personal best jump of 10.0 meters.
The Blue Devil quartet of Brawner, Kelm, Rafter and Mondo completed the 4,000 meter DMR in 12:39.31 to take the top honor out of three other schools.
Rospierski and Nesmith went two-three in the 60 meter hurdles with times of 9.12 and 9.37 seconds, respectively.
Brawner completed the 1,000 meter run in the top-three of 12 runners in third place with a time of 3:07.39. In her first time collegiately competing in the 400 meter dash, Taft snagged a fourth place finish with a time of 1:02.96.
Sophomore Erica Snape ran a time of 8.17 seconds in the 60 meter dash and senior Alleah Red paced CCSU in the 200 meter dash with a 17th place finish (28.55s). Senior Olivia Mondo represented the New Britain crew in the one mile run, crossing the finish line at 5:38.39 in 10th place.
The 4x400 meter relay squad consisting of Kilian, Brawner, Rafter, Snape and Nesmith finished third out of nine schools with a time of 4:13.21.
For the throwing events, junior Abrah Toomey led CCSU with a fourth place weight throw of 13.67 meter and a sixth place shot put throw of 10.77 meters. Second year Blue Devil Valeria Hernandez placed eighth in both events, throwing a distance of 10.11 meter in the shot put and 11.26 meters in the weight throw.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team will resume action next Saturday, January 19th for the Joe Donahue Invite held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, MA.
