Nesmith Named NEC Women's Track Athlete of the Week
The Blue Devils run at the Northeast Conference Championships beginning Saturday.
Central Connecticut junior Sierra Nesmith was named the Northeast Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week it was announced by the league office on Tuesday. Nesmith won the 400 meter hurdles at the CCSU Invitational in her final tuneup for the Northeast Conference Championships. The league's championship meet is Saturday and Sunday, May 5-6, in Emmitsburg, MD.
Nesmith turned in the NEC's best time in the 400m hurdles on March 31 and has remained atop the league's charts since. In her final tune-up prior to the NEC Outdoor Championships, the defending league champion crossed the line in 1:00.97 at the CCSU Invitational last Saturday. That time, which is Nesmith's second-fastest of the season, is good enough to lead the conference by more than 1.0 second. The third-year Blue Devil currently sits in the No. 24 spot on the list of ECAC Championships qualifiers.
Nesmith and the Blue Devils will compete at the NEC Outdoor Championships beginning Saturday in Emmitsburg, MD, at Mount St. Mary's.
