Women's Track & Field Compete at David Hemery Valentine Invitational Saturday
Four personal records set, Mendelson qualifies for IC4A/ECAC in the mile.
Four Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field members broke personal records at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational Saturday at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center. Among the four was the NEC's top gun in the mile, junior, Brittany Mendelson, who ran a career best 4:56.89 time, while falling under IC4A/ECAC qualifying standards (4:59.04).
Mendelson's previous fastest mile mark, 4:58.14, was recorded two seasons ago, also at the BU David Hemery Invite back in 2015.
Freshman Erica Snape and senior Sherise Truman, ran in the 200 meter dash. Snape finished at 25.32, a new personal record, in 25th place, and Truman ended right behind the rookie in 29th at 25.52.
The lone Blue Devil registered in the 3,000 meter run event, sophomore Dawn Hubbell, set a new career record (10.27.43) surprassing her old best time of 11:01.02 set at the 2016 NEC Indoor Championships. Rookie, Megan Brawner rounded out the collegiate highs on Saturday, running a 2:20.05 in the 800 meter run.
Senior Melissa Wolliston claimed the top finish for the Blue Devils, placing fifth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.76. Wolliston's hurdle performance at BU was just .04 of a second slower than her school record mark of 8.72 set at the 35th Yale Collegiate Invitational this season. Coming in 12th place, with a time of 8.92 in the 60H was senior, Sarah Hicks.
In the 400 meter dash event, senior Sierra Nesmith, clocked in at 57.78, good for 29th place in the final standings, and missed a PR (57.65) by .07 of a second. Junior Tayler Boncal also competed in the 400M, finishing at 59.64.
Rookie Hailey Rospierski led two other Blue Devils in the high jump event. Rospierski jumped 1.60 meters and placed ninth. Classmate, Kadizha Benjamin followed taking seventh in the flight 1, and 21st overall, after clearing the 1.55m mark.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor squad will compete at the Northeast Conference Championships on next Friday and Saturday, February 17-18, inside Ocean Breeze Park Track and Field Complex at Wagner College in Staten Island, New York.
