Women's Track and Field Competes at Wagner Invitational Friday
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team competed on Friday, Jan. 6 at the Wagner College Invitational inside Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team competed on Friday, Jan. 6 at the Wagner College Invitational inside Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. Sophomore Sierra Nesmith and veteran Melissa Wolliston took top five finishes for the Blue Devils. Nesmith finished third in the triple jump with a new career high 11.51 meter jump, and Wolliston finished fifth in the 60 meter hurdles, marking a time of 8.87 seconds.
CCSU ran in the 4x400 meter relay in 4:04, good for a seventh place finish amongst 27 other teams. Senior Brittany Mendelson clocked in a time of 2:27.9 in the women's 800 meter dash, placing 23rd.
Rookie Valeria Hernandez and junior Abrah Toomey placed 21st and 25th, respectively, throwing 10.86m and 10.64m in the shot put event. Sophomore Dawn Hubbell led the Blue Devil runners in the one mile run (26th place), finishing with a time of 5:20.28.
Sophomore McKenna Killian leaped 5.09 meters in the long jump for a 17th place in the standings. Killian and freshman Hailey Rospierski tied in the high jump event at the 1.60 meter mark, both finishing in the top-10.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team will next travel to New Haven, CT on Saturday, Jan. 14 to compete at the Yale Collegiate Invite.
