Wolliston Earns Back-to-Back Women's Indoor Track Athlete of Week Honor
Senior Melissa Wolliston was recognized by NEC for her performance at the Yale Collegiate Invitational.
Central Connecticut women's indoor track senior Melissa Wolliston was named the Northeast Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week as announced on Tuesday afternoon. Last Saturday, January 14th, Wolliston broke her own school record in the 60 meter hurdles, 8.74 seconds, with a new time of 8.72, to claim first place in the event at Yale.
The Windsor native has climbed into the top-spot in the NEC rankings for the 60 meter hurdles through just two competitions. Last weekend at the Wagner Invitational, the CCSU hurdler notched an ECAC qualifying time of 8.83 with a first place finish in the 60 meter preliminary hurdles.
In addition to being the NEC's top-standard in the 60 meter hurdles, Wolliston moved up in the IC4A/ECAC Top 25 regional list, and now holds a place at number 16 right behind Boston University's Tehya Noell's mark of 8.71. Looking at the national grid, the veteran is nearing the Division 1 Top-100 ranking with her school record time of 8.72, standing at 128th place.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team will travel to Boston, MA this Friday, January 20th, to compete at the Joe Donahue Invitational at the historic Reggie Lewis Athletic Center.
