The Central Connecticut women's outdoor track and field team competed on Friday and Saturday this weekend, finishing the weekend with a trip to the Northeast Challenge hosted by the University of Connecticut on Saturday.
The weekend started with an impressive performance from junior Brittany Mendelson. The two-time Northeast Conference cross country champion topped the old CCSU record set by Krisztina Dearborn in 2013 (17:04.56), with a new record of 17:01.23 on Friday at the Mt. Sac Relays in Torrance, CA. Mendelson finished 32nd in the field of runners.
On Saturday several Blue Devils competed at the Northeast Challenge.
Freshman Gianna D'Amato finished third in the javelin with a throw of 40.08 meters.
The Blue Devils finished third in the 4x100 meter relay in a time of 47.54. The team of senior Sarah Hicks, senior Sherise Truman, freshman Erica Snape and freshman Wileshka Samuel finished less than a second out of first place.
Freshman Megan Brawner finished sixth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:46.88.
Junior Melissa Wolliston finished third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.57. Hicks was seventh in the same race with a time of 14.88, and Rospierski followed right behind the heels of Hicks in eighth place with a time of 14.90.
Snape finished second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.41. Samuel came across in 12.59 to finish in sixth.
Sophomore Sierra Nesmith tan 1:02.92 in the 400 meter hurdles to finish in second.
Truman ran 25.19 in the 200 meter dash to finish in third place. Snape was fifth in 25.49 and Samuel was sixth in 25.73.
