Wolliston Recognized by Northeast Conference
Senior Melissa Wolliston, was recognized on Tuesday afternoon as the Northeast Conference's Track Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Wagner College Invitational last Friday.
Current Central Connecticut indoor women's track and field 60 meter hurdles record-holder, senior, Melissa Wolliston, was named the Track Athlete of Week by the Northeast Conference Tuesday afternoon. Last Friday, January 6, Wolliston competed in the 60 meter hurdle event at the Wagner College Invitational inside Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Wolliston's first competition of the season landed her atop the NEC performance list. Competing at the Wagner Invitational, the CCSU hurdler came in under the ECAC qualifying standard while winning her preliminary heat. Wolliston, who clocked in at 8.83 during the prelims, finished fifth in the final by edging out UConn's Ashley Wiggins. In addition to making Wolliston the NEC leader, the prleiminary time placed her in the Top 25 on the ECAC regional list.
Last season as a junior, Wolliston broke the CCSU school record in the 60 meter hurdles, when she sprinted across the finish line at 8.79 (third place) at the Joe Donahue Games at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury, MA. Her time broke the previous CCSU record of 8.86 that was set by Shelby Tuttle back in 2014.
Wolliston and the rest of the women's indoor track squad picks back up this Saturday, January 14 in New Haven, CT at the Yale Collegiate Invite.
