Women's Track and Field Take Part In URI Coaches Tribute Invitational Saturday
Central women's indoor track traveled to Kingston, RI for the Coaches Tribute Invitational held at URI Saturday.
Senior Sarah Hicks crossed the finish line in first place in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles for the Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team Saturday at URI. Hicks ran a new personal best time of 8.87. Rhode Island hosted its annual Coaches Tribute Invitational inside Mackal Field House, where 16 colleges/universities gathered on the competition field.
Senior Melissa Wolliston competed at the Armory Track Invitational Friday, Feb. 3 in New York, NY at the New Balance Track and Field Center. In the preliminary round Wolliston ran a time of 8.81, and a 8.79 time in the semifinals.
Freshmen Hailey Rospierski and Megan Brawner both notched a pair of collegiate bests in Kingston, RI Saturday. Rospierki was runner-up in the high jump event afterjumping 1.65 meters, and sprinted 9.13 in the preliminaries of the 60 meter hurdles. Brawner's two personal records came in the one mile and 800 meter dash. She finished the one mile competition in 5:17.44, and the 800m in a time of 2:22.81.
Sophomore Madeline Mondo and junior Abrah Toomey also joined in on setting personal records for CCSU. Mondo took fourth and ran a 10:30.83 distance time in the 3,000 meter run, and Toomey hit the 10.91 meter mark in the shot put event, good for 11th place.
The Blue Devils sole runner in the 500 meter dash, senior Taylor Boncal, placed fifth with a time of 1:19.15. Classmate Sherise Truman added a top-10 finish, coming in seventh in the 200 meter dash at 26.18. Truman also finished the 60 meter preliminary dash in 8.04.
Rookie Erica Snape joined Truman in the 200m coming in 10th overall at 26.33. Second year Blue Devil McKenna Kilian represented CCSU in the long jump finishing with a mark of 5.15 meters. Rounding out a solid day of performances was freshman Kadizha Benjamin who high jumped 1.60m.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday, February 4 at Boston University at the David Hemery Invitational.
