Wolliston Sets CCSU Record for Women's Track & Field at Yale Collegiate Invitational
CCSU will compete at the Joe Donahue Invite next weekend.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field squad competed at the Yale Collegiate Invitational on Saturday. Senior Melissa Wolliston broke her own school-record in the 60 meter hurdles to highlight the Blue Devils' performances.
YALE COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL RESULTS
Wolliston won the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.72. Senior Sarah Hicks placed second in the event with a time of 9.05. Freshman Hailey Rospierski (9.19) placed third (9.19) and sophomore Sierra Nesmith (9.26) placed fifth.
Senior Taylor Boncal ran a personal-best, 59.19, to win the 400 meter dash. Senior Sherise Truman won the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.21.
Freshman Erica Snape earned a second-place finish in the 60 meter dash and set a collegiate personal-best, turning in a time of 7.89. Senior Sarah Hicks placed eighth in the event with a time of 8.22.
Sophomore McKenna Kilian placed second in the long jump with a personal-record jump of 5.22m. Nesmith placed sixth with a leap of 4.99 meters and Rospierskie jumped 4.52 meters to place 12th.
Freshman Kadizha Benjamin placed second in the high jump with a collegiate personal-record leap of 1.60 meters.
Sophomore Madeline Mondo set a personal-record in the 3,000 meter with a time of 10:31.01 to place fifth.
Kilian placed fifth overall in the 500 meter run with a time of 1:21.37. In the 1,000 meter run, freshman Megan Brawner led three Blue Devils, placing fifth (3:08.44). Senior Brittany Mendelson placed seventh (3:08.97) and senior Jazmin Booker placed eighth (3:10.01).
Junior Abrah Toomey had a personal-record throw of 13.87 meters to place seventh in the weight throw. Freshman Valeria Hernandez placed 12th with a mark of 11.23 meters. In the shot put, Hernandez placed 10th with a throw of 10.19 meters and Toomey (9.86m) was 11th.
The relay team of Boncal, Wolliston, Snape and Nesmith won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:57.03. The 4,000 meter distance medley relay placed third with a time of 12:46.19.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday, Jan. 20 at the Joe Donahue Invite in Boston, MA, at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center.
