Saunders Closes Regular Season with NEC Honor
Junior Ronea Saunders was named NEC Field Athlete of the Week for the second time during the 2014 outdoor season on Tuesday.
Junior Ronea Saunders of the Central Connecticut women's track and field team closed the regular outdoor season earning her second outdoor NEC Field Athlete of the Week honor, the conference announced Tuesday.
Saunders closed out the month of April by matching her season-best mark in the high jump. The third-year Blue Devil, who was the runner-up at the 2013 NEC Outdoor Championships, cleared 1.75m (5' 8.75") to win the North Florida Invitational. The mark puts Saunders in the Top 100 nationally as she is one of only 86 Division I high jumpers to reach that height this season.
Saunders, who is tied atop the NEC leader board with defending champion Kyaira Wright-Harmon, is the lone performer in the league to have cleared 1.75m on multiple occasions this season.
The Blue Devils are back in action this weekend, May 3-4, when they travel to Robert Morris University in Moon Township, PA for the 2014 NEC Outdoor Championships.
