Saunders Named NEC Field Athlete of the Week
In her first outing of the season, Saunders cleared 1.75m for first place in the high jump this weekend.
Central Connecticut track and field junior Ronea Saunders was named NEC Field Athlete of the week Tuesday for her impressive performance this weekend at the Boston University Season Opener.
The third-year Blue Devil won the Boston University Season Opener by leaping 1.75m, a height that only four other Division I jumpers in the nation cleared during the season's first week.
Saunders holds the CCSU record in the event in both indoor and outdoor (5' 10" indoor, 5' 8.75" outdoor), both of which she set in 2012.
The defending NEC high jump champion cleared 1.70m at the 2013 NEC Indoor Championships and now opens her junior season with one of the top jumps in Division I.
Saunders and the rest of the Blue Devils will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 11 for the Yale Invitational.
