Saunders Set for USATF Outdoor Championship
Ronea Saunders will compete against an elite field at the USATF Outdoor Championships this weekend.
Central Connecticut's Ronea Saunders will compete at the 2014 USATF Outdoor Championships this week in Sacramento, California. Saunders will participate in the high jump as one of 16 competitors in a talented field.
The women's high jump is scheduled for Sunday, June 29 at 12:05 pm. Highlighting the high jump field is 2012 Olympic silver medalist Brigetta Barrett.
Last month, Saunders set a new CCSU women's track and field record for the high jump by clearing 1.77 meters at the NCAA East Preliminary. Her jump was good for a tie for 17th place finish in the East Region. She qualified for that meet as one of the top-48 collegiate performers in the Eastern United States during the Spring 2014 season.
Saunders won the high jump at the Northeast Conference Indoor Championships in February and then finished second at the outdoor meet in May.
Her personal best in the high jump came during the 2014 indoor season when she cleared 1.82 meters.
In 2012, she placed second in the high jump at the USATF Junior Nationals.
