Softball Slowed at UConn on Wednesday

The Central Connecticut softball team was downed at the University of Connecticut, 2-1, on Wednesday at Burrill Family Field in Storrs, CT. The game's runs were all scored in the first three innings of a pitcher's duel. Sophomore Peyton Silverman allowed just one earned run in the circle for CCSU and twirled a complete game.

The loss drops Central to 14-23 overall, while the Huskies improved to 16-28.

The Blue Devils travel to Saint Francis U for a Northeast Conference doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.

UConn got on the board in the bottom of the first to take the lead. Briana Marcelino doubled to left field with one out. Carli Cutler would single with two outs to score Marcelino and make it 1-0.

The Blue Devils came back in the third inning to tie the game. Senior Brittany Camara led off with a bunt single and moved to second on an error. She would score on the next batter when junior Kaitlin Paterson doubled to left center to make it 1-1.

The Huskies would recapture the lead in the bottom of the third after loading the bases with one out. CCSU would record the second out, but Kiwi McDaniel would work a bases loaded walk to bring in the go-ahead run to make it 2-1.

UConn's Jill Stockley would only allow two CCSU singles over the final four innings to make the one-run lead hold up.

Paterson would pace the Blue Devils' offense on the day, recording two hits and the RBI. Camara, sophomore Emily Cronin and freshman Sydney Bolan each add base hits for Central.

Silverman scattered six hits over 6.0 innings of work, allowing just one earned run. She walked three and struck out one.
