Blue Devils Ready For USF Under Armour Showcase
CCSU kicks off the five game slate at 11:30 a.m. on Friday against Western Michigan.
Central Connecticut will trek down to Clearwater, FL for the University of South Florida's Under Armour Showcase on March 9-11. The Blue Devils will take on Western Michigan (11:30 a.m.) and Rider (4:15 p.m.) on Friday, South Dakota State (9:00 a.m.) and UT Chattanooga (11:15 a.m.) on Saturday, and Lehigh (11:15 a.m.) on Sunday.
CCSU heads into the tournament with a record of 3-8 and will look to snap its three-game losing streak after last weekend's Razorback Invitational at Arkansas. Senior Gianna Hathaway leads the team at the plate, batting .333 through 11 contests. Hathaway, freshman Sydney Bolan and senior Brittany Camara are tied for a team-best 11 hits on season.
Scouting the Opponent
Western Michigan
Western Michigan enters this weekend with an 8-10 record on a three-game winning streak. The Blue Devils met the Broncos last year for the first time in program history at the USF Under Armour Showcase and fell 2-0 to the MAC opponent.
Rider
The Broncs (2-6) are 7-0 all-time against Central Connecticut. Rider last played at the Coppin State Eagle Classic where they finished 2-1.
The last time CCSU and Rider met on the diamond dates back to March 17, 2007 on the Broncs turf and fell 1-0.
South Dakota St.
The Jackrabbits travel to Clearwater, FL with a 9-6 record after last competing at the Central Arkansas Tournament where they finished 4-1. The Blue Devils met Summit League foe for the first time last year at USF and fell 8-5 in eight innings.
UT Chattanooga
Saturday will mark the first ever meeting between the Blue Devils and the Mocs. Chattanooga (8-12) is on a four-game losing streak after playing at the Ole Miss Classic last weekend.
The Mocs lost to Northeast Conference members, Fairleigh Dickinson (9-5) and Sacred Heart (8-0) earlier this season.
Lehigh
The Mountain Hawks (2-7) will face off with CCSU for the first time in program history on Sunday. Lehigh last played at the Duke Inaugural Tournament and went 1-3 in Durham, NC.
