A convincing 11-1 home-opener victory over the Quinnipiac Bobcats granted fifth year Central Connecticut head softball coach Breanne Gleason to her 100th career victory with the Blue Devils. Senior ace Emily Sargent struck out five Bobcats in five innings of work as she improved to 4-5 on the season.
CCSU (7-12) out-hit Quinnipiac 9-to-6, led by a two-run homerun to right-center from freshman Sydney Bolan in the bottom of the first inning. The long-ball marks Bolan's third of the year. Quinnipiac's lone run came in the top of the second inning and sac fly that veered foul as they fall to 8-14 on the year.
Central jumped on the Bobcats quickly, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Constantin racked in two RBI on a deep double to right field, and Debrosse launched a RBI-single to center field along with Bolan's homer to give CCSU the healthy lead.
The Blue Devils would continue to pour on the offense in their next at bats, scoring four more runs on three singles despite QU's pitching change. CCSU would tab two more runs in the bottom of the third making the score 11-1 where the score would remain as Sargent closed out the win in the top of the fifth inning.
CCSU will next host a pair of doubleheaders this weekend. Manhattan will challenge the Blue Devils first on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. and then Central will see Iona on Sunday, also at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
