Camara, Bolan Take Home Northeast Conference Weekly Honors
Camara was named Co-Player of the Week and Bolan earned her third consecutive Rookie of the Week nod.
For the third straight week, the Northeast Conference has deemed Central Connecticut freshman Sydney Bolan the league's Rookie of the Week. The NEC's front office also named senior Brittany Camara the Co-Player of the Week for her top-notch performances against Wagner and LIU Brooklyn.
The sluggers were a force to be reckoned with at the plate during the ninth week of Central's 2018 campaign, combining for seven runs scored, 12 hits and 11 runs batted in, aiding in the Blue Devils sweep of LIU and split series with Wagner.
Bolan, who hails from Fair Point, NY, hit .400 and delivered in the clutch with a walk-off homer to give the Blue Devils a 2-1 win in the Saturday's nightcap against Wagner. The following day, she responded with another solo blast as the Blue Devils completed a sweep of LIU Brooklyn.
Bolan leads CCSU as well as all NEC rookies in home runs (6) and slugging percentage (.551) among qualified hitters.
Camara was an offensive juggernaut, hitting .533 while knocking in nine runs to help the Blue Devils go 3-1 in the second weekend of NEC play. The senior center fielder delivered a monster performance in Central's doubleheader sweep of LIU Brooklyn on Sunday, going 6-for-9 with nine RBIs. With her team down two runs in the fourth inning of game two, Camara laced a double down the right field line to score two runs and tie the game.
She then finished the game with an exclamation point, hitting a three-run homer to end the game in the sixth inning. The Merrimack, NH native leads CCSU in multiple hitting categories, including hits (38), RBIs (21) and runs scored (22).
